Birch SPECIES - Birch is a HARDY>HARDY DECIDUOUSTREE>DECIDUOUS TREE belonging to the GENUS Betula which contains more than 30 species.

They are typically rather short-lived pioneer species, the most common of which in BONSAI>BONSAI>BONSAI are the Silver Birch ( BIRCH - SILVER (BETULA PENDULA) ) and Arctic Birch ( Birch - DWARF/Arctic (Betula Nana) ). (See these individual entries for detail).

Often known as Scotland's weed tree since there are so many of them in areas of poor soil conditions e.g. PEAT mosses.
