Existing Bonsai A To Z Entry for Cleft grafting Cleft grafting  - (Procedure) (No Photo) This involves inserting a small (3-5 cms) split in the end of a branch and the insertion of a scion from elsewhere on the same plant (or from another tree of the same species). The base of the scion should be "double chamfered" before insertion and then the join should be bound with raffia and smeared with grafting wax.
